DESAPARECIDO_webOVER 125 people are involved in the search for Juan Antonio Gomez Alarcon, aged 32, has not been seen since he went on a two day hike on July 20. Despite extensive searches in the area, there is still no sign of the man, who is described as an expert hiker who knew the area well.

Juan Antonio was last seen getting on a bus in Fuengirola with a small knapsack, a walking stick, and light-coloured trousers with darker patches on the knees. He was not carrying a mobile phone.

When he last spoke to his family he said he was going to the sierra, which they assumed to be the Sierra de Mijas.

However, search area has been extended to the Sierra de las Nieves, Ojen, Torremolinos, Churriana, Malaga and El Chorro, and his family and friend have put up posters all along the coast.

His sister says that he had recently failed civil servant exams to become a teacher, but that he was not depressed and had a ‘Plan B’ which was to go and work abroad.

The family, however, is worried that not enough is being done and the rescue teams are not well coordinated. They are convinced he has suffered an accident which prevents him from moving and that he may have got stuck in a cave or pothole.
