Common traits
Common traitsNever mind policemen and footballers, when you reach a certain age, everyone seems to have become younger. Lawyers, shop assistants, bar owners, council workers and even people just walking about all appear to be around school-leaving age.

Ah well, never mind. As our dear Queen (no, not Larry Grayson) once said: “It’s easy to get old. All you have to do is live long enough!”

So, how was your week? It looks as though my remarks about the mental outlook of people in Middle Eastern countries have caused the usual mixed reception. As most of you know, it stirs me not and I withdraw absolutely nothing.

It is pure fact that people from particular countries do follow certain traits. Majority wise, of course, there will always be exceptions, but as a rule of thumb the inhabitants of certain areas do hold similar ‘common’ characteristics.

In order to prove this, I shall now endeavour to offend just about everyone!

After the Mid-East brigade, who are totally insecure and are therefore unable to ever concede they may be in the wrong, we go to the:-

  • French - Unpleasant
  • Dutch - Insular
  • Scandinavians - Cold
  • English - Complacent
  • Russians - Bullying
  • Belgians - Mistrusting
  • Irish - Welcoming - wily
  • Germans - Arrogant
  • Spanish - Impetuous
  • Americans - Superior
  • Africans - Suspicious
  • Chinese - Chinese
  • Australians - Unsophisticated.
And so on and so forth. What a diverse and complicated race human beings still are.

One day in about a million years’ time (assuming we last that long) let us hope it is the creator’s plan for us all to live peacefully as one, and the only tribe in existence will be ‘Earthanians’.

Dream on, Leapy!

I don’t quite know how to tell you this.

Having said that, I don’t quite know how to tell it to myself.

Leapy’s bought another bar!

Yep, after 20 years of saying, ‘never again’ I’ve done it again.

I’ve obviously snapped and will probably be in a strait-jacket before it all transpires, but it does seriously appear to be on the cards. ‘Er indoors and my lovely daughter Charlene will be running it and I shall be flitting in and out as required. The bar will be named ‘Lee’s’ and is situated in Santa Ponca’s ‘Irish Town’ (where else?). I’ll keep ya posted as to the opening date and hope to see you there. In the meantime, address all my correspondence to ‘The Asylum for the Slightly Demented’ Mallorca, Espana, OK!?

One thing I have found interesting with our new venture is how much more aware I am (hopefully) of all the pitfalls you can encounter when opening a new business in Spain - truly frightening. They must have really seen me coming that first time. PG, I’m not speaking too soon.

I’ll let you know.

It’s all systems go now for Calvia’s Europe Day celebrations.

It all takes place in Palma Nova on the Sunday May 11 and promises to be bigger and better than ever. Funny when you think that when we began four years ago, except for the dedicated volunteers, the whole thing was an uphill struggle and we got hardly any encouragement at all. Now, everyone seems to want a slice. Ah well, you know what they say. Nothing succeeds like success.

If you don’t have the good fortune to live on this ‘Paradise Isle’ I would say it was almost worth getting a weekend away trip to attend. I know you won’t be disappointed.

And that just about does it for this week.

Thanks for all your lovely correspondence.

For all of you looking ahead to the new season, which is now almost upon us, I wish you mucha suerte in your various ventures.

For those of you still a bit poorly, I wish you a speedy return to good health.

To those of you with hatred in your hearts, I reiterate it is a corrosively-laced poison with the most potent of ingredients.

To those of you happiness- spreaders out there, I say keep up the good work.

And to all you Earthanians out there, keep a smile on yer boat race, keep on hanging in and, whatever ya do, always keep the faith.

Love Leapy
