New touristic route to honour Malaga’s Andalus’ heritage

THE group Malaga Cien Pueblos (Malaga one hundred towns), has created a tourist route to enhance the Andalusí heritage of the province. The new route, the route of Omar Ibn Hafsún, will be presented at the Fair of Town and Cities of Malaga from April 19-22.

The initiative is a unique tourist product to emphasise the medieval legacy of Malaga, especially from the time of the Hafsuni revolution against the caliphate Omeya in the ninth and tenth centuries. Castles, cave paintings, Mozarabic sites and other interesting remainders of this historically interesting era can be found along the route, which was created with the help of history professor Virgilio Martinez.

The project will publish a guide of the route and two books regarding the landscapes of the Malaga province and other tourist activities.
