Algarve voted top world golf region

• 26 Apr 2007 •

THE Algarve was distinguished with the Best Golf Destination in the World award at the Rheingolf consumer golf fair. The announcement was made during the Golf Show in Cologne promoted by Rheingolf, Germany’s leading golf magazine.

The Algarve was voted Top World Golf destination by readers of the German magazine, coming ahead of other traditional favourites like Ireland and the Costa del Sol. Christopher Stillwell, President of the Algarve Golf Association said he was very pleased with the award, adding that on one hand it enhanced the IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) award, won last year and in 2000, and on the other hand, it should help increase the number of German players coming to the Algarve.

At the fair, the Algarve Promotion Association (ATA) was representing the region and golf, as a product for the German market.

According to ATA, the investments made for this event ranged from 400,000 euros, which represented about 30 per cent of their annual promotional budget.

ATA put together a stand along with six other companies, who complemented the decoration with attractive images of courses, beaches and other essential products of Algarve’s golf industry.

The goal was to consolidate the region as an ideal golf destination not only to the German public or industry professionals, but also on an international level.
