Drug bust on the Costa

• 01 Mar 2007 •

POLICE in Malaga have arrested eight people for drug trafficking and seized 41kg of cocaine. The detainees belong to a clan located in El Palo and known as Los Aranda. Officers from Operation Ocho had been watching a chalet in the Campo Mijas urbanization where members of the organisation apparently cut and prepared drugs which they later sold in El Palo. From there, police followed two cars, intercepted them and arrested a 25-year-old man who was found to be carrying 39 packets of cocaine, weighing 1kg each, in two sports bags and a rubbish bag.

The man tried to escape by car, subsequently hitting two police cars. Another car containing two men was also followed and intercepted.

On further investigation, the head of the group and another four men were arrested. Nine houses in Malaga, Fuengirola and Benalmadena were searched and as well as the cocaine, 100kg of lactose, two hydraulic presses, a bullet-proof vest, a gun with silencer, ammunition, four precision scales, three masks, transparent wrapping paper, latex gloves, two shackles, six luxury watches, 416,000 euros, nine luxury cars and several mobile phones were confiscated.

The investigation continues to ensure the whole network is dismantled. The detainees remain in custody with charges.
