Delayed park opens to the sound of music
• 26 Apr 2007 • RESIDENTS of Parque Litoral and Mainake now have a near 51,000 square metre park – one of the biggest in Malaga – to improve their quality of life.
Though initially the park was expected to be developed in six months, it took 11 for the work to be completed.
The Residents’ Association of Parque Litoral celebrated the park - which includes a sports area - with a party that included an orchestra playing. In the west of Malaga, it directly links residents of Parque Litoral and Avenida Molière through a pleasing walk.
Elías Bendodo, town councillor for the Carretera de Cádiz district, confirmed that with the work completed by local builders Sando and Vera, the “park is opening and that’s that, without an official event,” with the pre-electoral campaign preventing the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, from carrying out an official
inauguration.
First outlined in plans announced last May, the park
includes 620 trees, bushes and flowers, though the widely grassed park is still maturing in most areas.
Alfonso Peralta, an architect, said plants and trees had been selected “that offer a different image according to the time of year and that adapt to the climate and conditions in Malaga”.
One path that crosses the park from north to south is decorated with catalpas, a tree with large leaves and white flowers, while a path from east to west has alvicia that have smaller leaves and pink flowers.
The Parque Litoral sports grounds include areas for football, basketball and the French bowls game of petanque, in addition to an area for children. A local resident said: “I am very happy the park is finally ready, I´m looking forward to spending time there especially since the weather is improving.
My husband loves that the park includes a petanque area since he has played before on our holidays in the south of France.” | Return to Top
