Algarve at the World Travel Awards

 THE Algarve has received six nominations for the 2007 edition of the World Travel Awards. Hailed as the Oscars of the travel industry, the award winners will be announced at a ceremony which will take place on May 30 at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace hotel, one of the most
exclusive hotels in the Middle East.
Among the nominees for this year’s edition of the awards, which will be voted by travel agents worldwide, the Algarve was selected for the first time in the category of Europe's Leading Dive Destination. One of Algarve’s beaches was also nominated for the Europe's Leading Beach award. For this award, Dona Ana beach in Lagos will be competing with Spain’s Marbella and Costa de la Luz, as well as with the French Cannes and Port Grimaud beaches, Corfu and Mykonos in Greece, Costa Smeralda in Italy and Patara in Turkey.
Albufeira’s Vila Joya, which last year won the Word’s Best Boutique Resort award, was this year short listed in the categories of Europe's Leading Boutique Hotel and Europe's Leading Suite. Hotel Quinta do Lago is among those competing for the title of Europe's Leading Golf Resort and Aqualand the Big One was nominated for the award of Europe's Leading
