Loulé Carnival huge success despite the rain
• 01 Mar 2007 •
LOULÉ Carnival celebrations were a huge success this year. In spite of the weather conditions which were far from being perfect, with frequent showers, the carnival parades have brought to the city more than 70,000 visitors, including many foreign tourists, said the local Town Council.
Loulé is considered the high point of the Algarve Carnival celebrations and, according to the organizers of the event, people who attended this year were particularly impressed with the 17 floats that paraded through the town’s main street.
This year’s theme was the “Apito Dourado” case, an investigation which was recently opened by the Attorney General’s office into reports that referees were offered bribes to influence several Premier League matches.
Other floats showed caricatures of the country’s top politicians, including President Cavaco Silva who was born in the Loulé area, and Prime Minister José Socrates, as well as Portugal’s Finance Minister.
Groups of Brazilian dancers were just another among the many top attractions at Loulé’s Carnival parades. | Return to Top
