World’s top windsurfers compete in Portimao

 PORTIMÃO is hosting the 2007 edition of the Formula Windsurfing Grand Prix. The most important names in the world’s windsurfing championships are present in this sports event. The list of registered participants includes last year’s World Champion, Steve Allen, from Australia and the 2006 European Champion, UK’s Ross Williams.
Portimão Town Hall is one of the main sponsors of the event and mayor Manuel da Luz said: “After the success of the Portimão Windsurfing Euro Cup 2006, it’s with even more enthusiasm that the Town Council associates itself, this time, to the organisation of the 2007 Portimão Formula Windsurfing Grand Prix. Portimão is today a town of reference for national nautical sports fans. The union of the Arade River with the Atlantic Ocean provides unique conditions to be a perfect venue for several different water sports competitions.
“The sponsorship of this event comes from a strategy of the Town Council that concerns the gradual increment of this type of event, either associating itself to private promoters, or by establishing partnerships with the local clubs.
