Fight over inheritance

• 03 May 2007 •

A COURT in Fuengirola is dealing with a case involving two families fighting over an inheritance valued at 10 million euros that is distributed over several country houses in the provinces of Malaga, Sevilla and Cadiz.

The couple that owned the estate died within one year of each other -  the wife from natural causes in May 2001 and the husband after suffering from depression, committed suicide in June 2002. Neither had children but both had several nieces and nephews living in Sevilla and Fuengirola.

According to Fernando

Osuna, the Sevilla familiy´s lawyer, the couple had made it clear they wanted to distribute their wealth equally between both branches of the family but that the husband’s depression prevented him from changing his will to include the family from Sevilla, thereby leaving the estate to the Fuengirola family.

A niece from the Sevilla side of the family has declared in court that she was the one that looked after her uncle during his sickness while “the Fuengirola family have never worried about his health as much as about his wealth”. She also believes that they coerced her uncle into not altering his will. The case continues.
