Benalmadena most environmentally friendly

BENALMADENA has been following an approved law-enforced system of underground rubbish containers found on new urbanisations and developments.

The mayor of Benalmadena, Enrique Bolin has informed that these types of containers are located on what is known as ecological islands, 170 of which are placed in different areas of the town and the 531 containers are divided between them with three to seven underground containers on each island, “making this the town with the most ecological islands per inhabitant”.

Each island consists of a container for glass, organic waste and plastics to ensure the proper recycling of these materials.

The mayor also said that Benalmadena was “the first community in Andalucia to install these islands which was 12 years ago and that it first began as an experiment in the Solymar area”.

The mayor has always supported all subjects relating to the environment, and stated that more methods will be implemented not only to improve the overall appearance of the community, but to make recycling easier, more efficient and in accordance to the law.
