"Diocese of Malaga prohibits exhibition"

• 03 May 2007 •

COIN Cultural Department representative, Garcia Aguera, has expressed his disappointment after the Diocese of Malaga prohibited an exhibition in the Santa Maria de la Encarnacion convent in Coin.

The convent, normally used for cultural events in the area and the joint exhibition of Salvador Luna and Antonio Hernandez, organised by the Coin Cultural Department, was planned to have opened

May 11.

However, it has been postponed after the Bishopric decided that “its message is considered contrary to Catholic principles.”

Part of the exhibition describes new family types and the poster announcing the exhibition displays an image in which the two artists – who were married at a civil ceremony in Coin – are kissing.

The Coin Cultural Department has stated that “such a prohibition, veto or censure constituting aggression against freedom of speech and fun damental rights as well as discrimination against sexual preference and condition of people is something we cannot share or agree with.”
