Flat buyers in battle

• 03 May 2007 •

MANY British citizens are still waiting for the building of their house to commence after they paid deposits of up to 35,000 pounds (51,500 euros) over three years ago. The beach front apartments in Benalmadena, costing 75,000 pounds (110,000 euros), were allegedly to be ready in 2004.

The Spanish estate agents deny any responsibility and claim the money from the deposits and the project are in the hands of the builders. A spokesperson said: “We understand why our clients are angry, but all we can do is pass on information we get from the builders. They have the money and they are

responsible for the build. We were getting on well until Roman ruins were found on the site. Since then the communication has collapsed. Building has started again and it should take 24 months to complete.”

The British residents caught up in the controversy have joined forces with the Costa de Sol Action Group and have sought legal help from lawyer Gwilym Rhys-Jones who is familiar with this type of case.
