Mijas villa pulled down to avoid fine
• 03 May 2007 • RESIDENTS of La Alberquilla in Mijas, were witness to the pulling down of a 100 metre squared villa. A decision made by the owner of the property, as a result of being fined 90,000 euros for building the villa without a license.
According to the owner he preferred to pay the demolition costs of 3,000 euros instead of having to face the report and fine by the Guarda Civil Environmental Protection Service (Seprona).
The villa, named La Macarena, which had not been completed, is located on a 26,000 m2 plot of land and has incredible views of the mountains. The owner has assured that he will now solicit the necessary license to once again begin construction of the property.Another 400 properties in the area are also illegal as they are in a green flood zone, but La Macarena Villa has been the only one reported. According to aquaintances of the owner, “it is not difficult to obtain a construction license when the plot where the house will be built on, is larger than 20,000 metres squared”, meaning that this particular property owner could have easily obtained one. This has resulted in Seprona reporting him.According to the Mayor of Mijas, Agustin Moreno (PSOE), the town hall has been working on the legalising of these properties for quite some time, including a of hydraulic protection system to avoid flooding of the area. Meanwhile, residents of La Alberquilla must wait to see what happens in each case as they occur. | Return to Top
