“An Interactive Experience”
• 03 May 2007 • THE Foreigners Department at Mijas Town Hall, in collaboration with more than 30 social clubs and associations, will be holding the 19th edition of the MIJAS INTERNATIONAL DAY on June 9 at the main square in Mijas village from 12 noon to 12 midnight.
Interactive performances
Once again the organisers of the International Day want it to be an interactive event, turning a large percentage of the performances into musical and dance workshops. The idea is that the people who visit the event not only enjoy watching the performances but will also join in. This is a fun way to get to know better the culture and folklore of a country.
Stands with workshops
The 30 stands set up around the main square of Mijas will offer the best of their beverage and cuisine at a symbolic price of one euro, representing different countries. There will also be free workshops throughout the day.
Children and teenagers
A special area for children and teenagers will be set up, next to the Mijas Tourist Office with all types of intercultural activities and workshops. A professional team of entertainers will be organising all the activities, competitions, puppet shows and workshops from 12:30 to 14:30 and 17:00 to 20:30. Two bouncy castles will also be put up for the little ones. As a novelty this year a stage will be set up in the Kids’ Zones, where folklore performed by children will be put on including Dutch clog dancing, Egyptian belly dancing and Flamenco.
The II Mijas International Day Drawing Competition is going to be carried out in all the schools of the Mijas municipality.
Children from the 5th and 6th year of primary school will be able to participate with their drawings related to the subjects: peace, living together and integration. The prizes have been sponsored by El Corte Ingles Costa Mijas Commercial Centre.
“Entre Culturas” project
The Project “Mijas Between Cultures” is a European initiative, through the funding of FEDER, Mijas Town Hall and the collaboration of the Community Funds of the Ministry of Inland Revenue in Spain, with the participation of two Moroccan entities: The Chamber of Craftsmen from Wilaya of Tangiers and the Regional Council of State of Tourism of Tangiers and Tetuan, which was created to promote the possibilities of economical and social development in our municipality and that of north Morocco. This year the “Entre Culturas” project will participate in Mijas International Day with an exhibition of their handcrafts, folklore, and a Moroccan tea and cakes tent.
