Two local hospitals in turmoil
• 10 May 2007 •
A DISPUTE has arisen regarding the new high-tech hospital in Benalmadena.
Allegedly, the mayor, Enrique Bolin, has accused the regional government of delaying the opening for electoral reasons, although the kitchen apparently remains unfinished and an electricity supply document has been lost. The council has footed the 20 million-euro bill for the building of the hospital alone, and now the Junta de Andalucia is responsible for equipping and managing it.
Mayor Bolin has stated that the kitchen, which will be run by a concessionary company, will be finished in two weeks and the electrical supply will be approved, eliminating all excuses for not being able to open.
He continued to say that the Junta have already selected the personnel who will work in the CHARE (Centro Hospitalario de Alta Resolucion de Especialdades) and that the equipment to be installed, is already bought and being stored at the moment.
Enrique Bolin considers it a priority to open the hospital before the summer, as “it is an installation needed by the
residents of Benalmadena, so I hope the Junta and local council can work in the same direction”.
Work has not yet started on the new Fuengirola-Mijas CHARE, although, supposedly work is to begin some time
in 2008.
An agreement was signed between the Junta and the Mijas Local Council in September 2005 (without including Fuengirola Council), however, groundwork has yet to be commenced and the Junta have given no reasons for the delay in starting the work. Fuengirola Council is requesting the new plans for the hospital, and the dates of initiation and final opening. It is also requesting that the residents of the town be taken into consideration since they represent future users of the CHARE and are an interested party in the process, although to date they have received no information.
The Partido Andalucista (PA), on the other hand, has presented its candidate for Fuengirola Council, Cristobal Gonzalez, who has promised to build a hospital on Fuengirola ground. Gonzalez stated that they would put “every effort into creating the hospital, with collaboration of the Junta de Andalucia or with local resources”. | Return to Top
