Transfer of botell—n causes changes for the better

Plaza de la Merced: Youths enjoying a night out wi

TRANSFERRING the botellón from Plaza de la Merced to Paseo de los Curas in December 2006, has resulted in a decrease of youths attending the event. When based at Plaza de la Merced, around 2300 young people socialised and drank together, however, Paseo de los Curas attracts approximately 600 youngsters less.

The number is expected to go up with the improvement of the weather and the subsequent increase in temperature. Some other changes have been noticed by the Youth Department of Malaga Town Hall with people leaving earlier thus shortening the time of public drinking. The police have not found that they have moved elsewhere to drink and the neighbours of Plaza de la Merced are complaining less.

Furthermore, there is more police presence at the Paseo de los Curas which means the youths attending can enjoy their evening with their friends and feel safe.
