Puerto Banus under video surveillance

THE regional government of Andalucia has approved the new video surveillance project for Puerto Banus, Marbella. The Marisol Yague government and the Centre for Tourist Initiatives (CIT) in Marbella attempted this more than a year ago without success.

Now that the document, drawn up by a local group of businessmen, has been evaluated and all technical errors have been corrected, the proposal to install 10 surveillance cameras in different areas of Puerto Banus harbour has been put forward. Areas to be surveyed include Avenida de Las Naciones and Plaza Antonio Banderas.

According to the president of the CIT, Miguel Gomez, the estimated cost of the project is 100,000 euros and his association is offering to pay 40 per cent of this. He also stated that he fully supports the project as other areas with surveillance cameras have seen 60 per cent decrease in crime.
