Bank Holiday death toll

AT least 29 deaths occurred on Spanish roads last weekend - nine more than last year - when, between May 5 and 7, 20 people lost their lives, according to the Direccion General de Trafico (DGT).

Between 3pm on Friday and midnight on Sunday, 25 fatal accidents occurred resulting in 29 deaths, 18 serious injuries and 14 minor injuries.

On Friday afternoon, seven people died and four were seriously injured while Saturday was the worst day with 13 fatalities in eleven accidents; five with serious injuries and two with minor.

Eight separate accidents were reported on the Sunday on Spanish roads. Nine people were left dead, a further nine were seriously injured and five received only minor injuries.
