Malaga in Flamenco 2007

• 10 May 2007 •

THE Malaga in Flamenco programme for 2007, sponsored by the city council, will dedicate one of its seven cycles to Paco de Lucia. He will gather all the great masters of guitar and his colleagues from Algeciras – Los Morente, El Pipa, Israel Galvan, Miguel Poveda, Mayte Martin, Arcangel, Carmen Linares. New groups including Son de la Frontera, Argentina, Diego Amador and Malaga flamenco dancer Rocio Molina are just some of the many great names involved.

Around 30 different spectacles will be seen for the first time and 500 different artists and musicians, half of whom are from Malaga, will take part.

The performances will take place in 14 different designated areas within the province, open-air, and in nine theatres covering a total of 10 cities and villages. Hundreds of extra activities are planned, among them seven exhibitions, 44 conferences, 10 discussion groups and 16 cultural courses.

The total of 51 spectacles will take place from August 25 until September 30, all ruled by the number seven: seven cycles with seven spectacles each, which will be inaugurated with an opening ceremony on the seventh day of the seventh month, in La Cueva de Menga (Antequera), with seven flamenco scenes combining theatre, film, drums and dance. The opening ceremony will end at seven in the evening with the premier of a montage on Malaga dancer, El Carrete.
