Quest to halt erosion

• 17 May 2007 •

Vale do Lobo: Erosion observed along coastline.IN the face of the accentuated erosion observed along the section of the coast in front of Vale do Lobo, particularly since the construction of Vilamoura Marina, and following the experience of two artificial beach refurbishments undertaken in the last eight years, the Board of Administration of Vale do Lobo has decided to commission a study on the protection of the coastline. The study will permit the evaluation of potential solutions and the selection of the most appropriate methed to protect the coastline and, if possible, enhance it, from a sustainable and long-term perspective.A Coastline Protection Study is being carried out, with the objective of analysing maritime engineering solutions for the protection of the Vale do Lobo seafront. The study is being undertaken by a team of Portuguese specialists led by Engineer Morim de Oliveira, with the support of specialists from the national Superior Technical Institute and from the Institute of Maritime Hydraulics at the Technical University of Delft in Holland, as well as Professor Paulo VD Correia, who has consulted for Vale do Lobo in the area of urban planning for many years.
