Going Dutch with Friends of Museum
• 17 May 2007 • FRIENDS of the Museum have organised two spectacular music events for the weekend of May 19-20 as part of the International Museum Day celebrations.
On Saturday at 8.30pm, the Amsterdam Chamber Group will be performing: Amor: Music for Love – Love for Music, which features music by Corelli, Scarlatti, Mozart, Elgar, Brahms, Ravel and Bizet.
The Amsterdam Chamber Group was founded in 2005 by a group of young, enthusiastic Dutch musicians. Members of the group play freelance in various Dutch symphony orchestras and ensembles. The goal of this professional chamber music group is to present high quality music of a varied classical repertoire related to the central theme.
A member of the group introduces each piece of music to show the links and to give a historical perspective. The flexible combinations, varying from string or flute quartet to a concert aria with mezzo soprano and full ensemble, contribute to the adventurous character of the performance. Friends thank The Dutch Embassy in Lisbon for giving financial help to support this exciting initiative. Tickets cost 20 euros.
On Sunday, the Friends Jazz Club are hosting ‘The Flying Dutchman Quintet’, who play a variety of jazz which blends mainstream and contemporary jazz with a touch of pop and soul.
Martin Teutscher is ‘The Flying Dutchman’ (voice and saxophone). He is joined by Tony de Sousa on drums, António Correia on double bass, Manuel d’Ava on guitar and Fernando Raymundo on keyboards. The concert starts at 6pm. Tickets are 5 euros.
