Town hall installs count down traffic lights

COUNT down traffic lights have been on trial for a while in Malaga city with the first being installed more than two years ago in the Paseo del Parque, the Plaza de la Marina and the Tetuan Bridge. Shortly after the initial trial, 20 more were installed. According to the Traffic Department of the Malaga Town Hall, the number of these traffic lights throughout the streets of Malaga city now figures at 88 in total.

The Councillor of Mobility, Javier Berlanga, has said that this has been petitioned by citizens and that “this novelty has made a huge impression on Malaga residents. Many people have told us that they work very well and they would like more of these types of traffic lights”.

According to the Councillor, these types of traffic lights were selected by the authorities to ensure a greater security and lessen the possibility of pedestrians being run down whilst crossing the road. He added that they are successfully fulfilling their requirements and that the advantage with this particular kind of lights is knowing the number of seconds you have left to cross the zebra crossing.
