Violent death of building worker

• 17 May 2007 •

THE police are investigating the death of a Ukranian workman, whose body was found on May 11 with a serious head trauma caused by a sharp object, possibly a hammer.

The body was found in the house which he was working on, by El Castillo petrol station in Mijas.

The body was taken to Malaga Legal Medicine Institute near the cemetery where the post mortem was performed on Saturday. The investigation has found that the man died in suspicious and violent circumstances, and the case remains open.

This recent death could constitute the third murder in the province this year, after a German couple were found shot dead in their chalet in Chilches.

The man, aged 70, and the woman, aged 54, had been tied up and gagged. A few days later, five people were arrested for their alleged implication in the crime which generated revulsion amongst the community.

According to the police, those implicated in the double murder formed part of a group    dedicated to violent robberies.

Two of the accused had had their entry to the European Union prohibited and another had four prior arrests, all for robbery with violence.
