Directors of association face serious charges
• 17 May 2007 • THE Malaga Provincial Courts will have 16 people before them accused of taking more than 1.3 million euros worth of donations given to the Federation of Romanian Associations of Andalucia (FARA) for personal use. The directors and staff of the gypsy organisation will be on trial from now until June 5.
There will be a number of witnesses to testify in the case against the accused who face from 6 months to 89 years in prison for crimes of money laundering, illegal appropriation, fraud, coercion, threats, tax evasion and falsification of documents. Among those charged is FARA ex president Vicente Rodgriguez Arribas who is accused of coercing the ex-councillor of Social Affairs for the Junta, Isaias Perez Saldaña, in June 2001 to continue giving him subventions.
The ex-councillor will be testifying against Arribas, who is facing 12 and a half years imprisonment, at the next court proceeding. The other 15 people allegedly involved are two of Arribas’ sons, his wife, the FARA vice president, the treasurer, the auditor, the secretary, a tax advisor and several employees of the organisation.
According to the public accusation document, Vicente Rodriguez Arribas was from one of the families integrated in Malaga from the known “Los Charros” clan and he allegedly gained presidency of FARA through violence and anti democratic means. | Return to Top
