Take a Walk of Life

• 17 May 2007 •

POSITIVELY PINK is a new association set up on the Costa del Sol in aid of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the cause championed by Positively Pink as the group because that it is a disease which affects everyone – whether it is family, friends, or acquaintances. We all know someone, or have heard of someone that has gone through or is going through treatment.

The charity is looking to be able to buy a radiotherapy machine that helps treat cancer which costs approximately one million euros. There are radiotherapy machines already on the coast but are all within the Malaga area and nothing of its kind further towards Marbella. If the money can be raised to buy a machine and have it within the Marbella area, it would decrease traveling time for those who have to have treatment. Positively Pink will be holding three events this year, the first being a sponsored walk on  May 19, Take a Walk of Life, which is the same day as the Playtex Moon Walk in London in aid of Breast Cancer. The second event is a charity golf day and the third is a Pink Ball in October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

At the moment, Positively Pink is organising the sponsored walk, Take a Walk of Life, which is an approximate eight kilometre walk around the La Cala de Mijas area starting and finishing at the Global Studios. The walk starts at 11.30am, registering everybody from 11.00am and there will be a five euro registration fee. The Euro Weekly News’ own Alison Caveney will be participating in the walk and raising funds for this well-deserved cause. She said: “Everyone knows someone that is affected by breast cancer in one way or another. I am doing the walk because it is for such a good cause and it is also an excellent way of keeping fit.”

To make the day more fun, the radio will be going live outside with walking news reports. There will also be a bar set up outside the studios with all of the male DJs doing the walk dressed as women. Nick, the owner from the restaurant Streets of London, is having his head shaved, Jeff Thomas is having his legs waxed, Marbella Castings will be coming down to do a male and female sponsored car wash and Paul Shafto will be doing a sponsored sky dive.
