Robert Murat not associated with Portuguese Homes

• 25 May 2007 •

PORTUGUESE HOMES have released a statement rejecting recent news reports which associated them with the only formal suspect in the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The Algarve real estate company stated: “Mr Robert Murat does not work for Portuguese Homes, nor is he associated with the company in any way.”  They however explained that he had worked for them in the past: “Mr Murat joined the sales division at Portuguese Homes at the end of 2005 and was with the company for a three-month trial period; after which time it was decided that he was not suitable for the position. He left the company at the end of 2005 and has had neither contact nor involvement with Portuguese Homes since this time.”

Portuguese Homes added: “In a case of this magnitude it is of paramount importance that investigators follow every possible lead and it is our understanding that Mr Murat is one of three individuals to be questioned by police in this current line of enquiry.”

Peter Grogan, the managing director of the company said: “The thoughts of all Portuguese Homes employees across the Algarve are with the McCann family at this very distressing time. We hope Madeleine will soon be back safe and well with her parents, brother and sister.”
