Girl abducted in Spain found in the Algarve

THE PSP Police have found an eleven-year-old Romanian girl who was allegedly abducted in the Spanish city of Malaga. A 20-old Romanian suspect, who was driving the French licence-plated car belonging to the little girl’s parents which was reported stolen, was detained.
The man is accused of having abducted the girl and of having stolen the car. The girl was reported missing in the early hours of May 19 when she was with her parents at a party in a restaurant. Just a few minutes after she told her parents that she was going to the car to listen to some music, her parents noticed that the car had gone and immediately alerted the police.
A spokesman for the Portuguese police said the suspect had been detained after a high-speed chase on the road connecting Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim, near the Spanish border. The spokesman said the Portuguese police hadn’t received any information from the Spanish authorities about the abduction, adding that police officers on routine patrol in Vila real de Santo António spotted the foreign car with a young girl inside and when they went to talk to the driver, he tried to escape.
The girl was returned to her parents who came from Spain, accompanied by Spanish police. Her father, who refused to reveal his name to reporters, said the suspect was known to the family, adding that he was drunk at the party where he was heard saying that he was going to take the little girl because he wanted to marry her. |  Return to Top
