Fair hit by power cut

• 28 May 2007 •

Fairground: Suffered losses when the power went ouA POWER-CUT led to Churriana fair being suspended with estimated losses of up to 100,000 euros.  Malaga Town Council is filing a complaint against electric company Sevillana – Endesa for damages and losses.  The problem allegedly occurred due to a fault in a transformer in Los Jazmines area which supplies power to several zones including the fairground. The fair had to be suspended except in the Caseta Municipal which had a back-up generator. However it closed its doors in solidarity with the other casetas. Electricity workers arrived more than 90 minutes after they had been told of the problem and it was eventually repaired at 6.30am the following morning.  The town council has asked Sevillana to supply technicians permanently on call in the area to prevent future problems.   Due to the cut, many businesses and fair rides suffered losses as they had to close.
