Bathing water to be quality controlled
• 28 May 2007 • THE Beach Service of the Malaga Council, starting June 15, is to install a monitoring system capable of automatically detecting, in real time, the microbiological quality of the water on 15 Malaga beaches from the golf course to Araña.
The Ecofloat buoys analyse the water and send data to the control post on land, where the quality of the water is checked and any abnormality can be looked at immediately. The Ecofloat buoy is unique, and is already used on Barcelona beaches and port, in Santander and the Cantabria autonomous community.
The system was invented in Spain, and was first commercialised by the company Ecolmare in the summer of 2006.They offer an integral service, installing, maintaining and retrieving the buoys, while the customer concentrates on the results. The buoy consists of a floating platform, analytic equipment, a beacon system, power module, control module, a data communication system and GPS positioning system.
The aims of the buoys on the Malaga beaches will be to control the quality of sea water, looking especially for e-coli, enterococos and coliformes, according to the European regulations, to alert in case of contamination, simplify and automate processes and control, and give continuous daily results from samples of the quality of water in the bathing and beach areas. | Return to Top
