Golfing for a good cause

• 31 May 2007 •

On the green: Golf helps local charity.IN the second of the series, The Associação Oncológica do Algarve (A.O.A), with golf professional Tony Bennett, held a charity golf event at Benamor Golf Club, on Sunday May 20, for the A.O.A Casa Flor das Dunas project.

The event raised 1500 euros with all of proceeds being passed the A.O.A, to help their project which is to provide overnight accommodation for cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment and their families in Faro. The project is to build a hostel on land already donated by the Camara

At the prize presentation at the end of play, Tony Bennett and Maria Ludres, from the Association, took the opportunity to thank all participants for their support, club Captain Tony Mchale for his help in the organisation, and most importantly to Antonio Almeida Pires and Ana Paula Galhardo, of Benamor Golf Club in Tavira.

The winners on the day were Yvonne Peek  with 39 points in the ladies’ section and Patrick Coleman with 38 points, in the men’s’    section.

The general feeling of the participants was that the scores were not so important, but rather the enjoyment of good competition, on a well presented course and supporting the A.O.A. in their project.

Tony Bennett has said that this series of events will be continuing throughout the summer period and into the     autumn.

If you would like to play in one of the upcoming events, or if your company would like to support a future event in this series, please contact him by calling (+351) 93 2524253 or e-mail scoringzone@gmail.com. Remember all proceeds raised from this series of events will go directly to charity.
