Streams to get a 2m euro facelift

MORE THAN two million euros is being spent on the Los Angeles and La Salud streams in Malaga by the Junta de Andalucia and the Cuenca Mediterranea Andaluza to improve their safety before next winter.

The clean-up projects - aimed at preventing them from being used as rubbish dumps -have been written in the official public records.

The idea is to prevent the banks from eroding by replanting vegetation in the surrounding areas and to improve the natural transition between the urban and river environments.

When the work is complete no cars will be allowed in the area.

The Los Angeles stream is in the worst condition and will cost more than 1.2 million euros to improve. The La Salud stream, better known as Culebras stream, is being gradually invaded by urban development throughout the 700m expansion of Puerto de la Torre.

The Cuenca Mediterranea hopes to restore vegetation and the flow of water in the area.
