SOS sanctuary man hospitalised in assault

• 31 May 2007 •

A theft and assault took place at the SOS Animal Sanctuary in La Cala de Mijas. Kim Halliwell, the president of SOS, and her husband Stan saw a van and four people, allegedly gypsies, head towards the bottom of the land which is part of the sanctuary. They were loading doors and windows, which had been donated to SOS for their building programme and were stacked in this area, into the van.

Mr Halliwell waited for the van to drive to the top of the land and tried to stop the thieves. When he did this, they began to throw things at him and one of them allegedly hit him over the head with an iron bar. He was hospitalised and has still not fully recovered.

The van was later abandoned and police are investigating the crime. However, Kim is worried the robbers may come back and try to harm some of the 230 dogs which are in the care of SOS. The sanctuary would like to thank all those who have answered the appeal for food and cleaning materials and ask that the generosity continue.

If you would like to help SOS in any way please contact Sandy on 952 385 923 or 666 814 056.
