Alternative cinema and short film festival in Benalmadena

• 31 May 2007 •

FICCAB: Will celebrate its 10th anniversary this yTHE INTERNATIONAL ALTERNATIVE Cinema and Short Film Festival in Benalmadena (FICCAB) will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year by extending its programme to municipal schools. Plans have already been made to take some of the festivals activities to Ibn Al Baytar, Maravillas School and IES Cerro del Viento. Projections of the films will also be repeated in the Alhaurin de la Torre prison. This year the main exhibition is dedicated to Guillermo del Toro, Mexican director of Pans Labyrinth and winner of the International Cinematographic Prize of the City of Benalmadena in 2004.

The exhibition will demonstrate the unique universe created by the director for films including Cronos, Mimic, Blade, Hellboy as well as Pans Labyrinth, using photographs, filming illustrations, sketchbooks and outlines, storyboards and elements used for special effects. This year, a knew aspect has been added titled the FICCAB Tour: The Best of Benalmadena, whereby short films that have been awarded prizes by FICCAB will be shown along with a selection of Malaga and Andaluz shorts. These short films tours have already taken part in two festivals in Cuba and will also participate in the Hispanic Morrocan Fim Fesitival in Martil (Morocco, May 30 to June 3), and in the Small Short Film Festival of Palma (Canaries, June 23 to June 30). Another novelty this year are examples of short gay and lesbian films, a result of the collaboration of FICCAB in the Gay and Lesbian Audio Visual Arts in Andalucia Festival.
