Tourism has new promotion campaign

Algarve tourism: Government launches another campaAN ADVERTISING campaign to promote Portugal as a tourist destination in 13 European markets has been officially launched by the Portuguese government, which has invested a total sum of 8.5 million euros. The campaign will be focusing on the most relevant markets, namely Britain, Spain, Germany and France, as well as Italy, Holland and Belgium, but it will also target other potential markets, including Scandinavia and Russia.

The campaign launched by the Tourism of Portugal office costs twice as much as last year's and is also subsidised by the tourism offices in the Algarve, Lisbon and Madeira. According to a source from the Ministry of Economy, it will be the most important international campaign ever organised by Portugal to promote tourism and will last until the end of 2007.

The government has also launched a new support programme for Portugal’s tourism industry. The Tourist Intervention Programme (PIT) will make 100 million euros available over the next three years to improve tourist facilities and to organise events of international magnitude. The Economy Ministry said the PIT is aimed at improving the quality of tourism in vital destinations including the Algarve,

Lisbon, the Estoril coastline and Madeira.
