Husband is held for chaining wife in car after row

• 07 Jun 2007 •

A MIDDLE-AGED man has been arrested  after his 32-year-old wife caught the attention of police while travelling as a   passenger in a car. The Local Police, who were patrolling streets in Huelin, Malaga, intercepted the car in Tomas de Echeverria Street, and the wife then raised her feet to the window to show them that her ankles had been chained together. The husband, aged 43 with the initials JRC, was subsequently arrested and spent the night in custody, though court proceedings are still to be scheduled. Police say that the husband claimed his wife’s mother and aunt had chained her feet because she was addicted to drugs, but the wife said he had done it following an  argument in which he forced her into a chair, and then put a chain around her ankles with a lock. He then put her in the car to take her home. When police frisked the husband they found the key to the ankle chain lock. The wife was uninjured.
