Thousands raised for underprivileged children
• 13 Jun 2007 •
ALMANCIL International Rotary Ckub has opened a fund for underprivileged children in the Algarve, and on June 2, the club launched a “Big Bang” charity event to raise money for the fund.
The club’s President, Leif B Axelsson described the event as a fantastic success. Thanks to sponsors, donors, golfers, dinner guests and members, the day ended with net proceeds of 13,500 euros.
The fund is now open to applications for support of underprivileged children in the Algarve. Application forms are available from charity@rotaryal mancil.org or from the Almancil International Rotary Club. All applications will be administered by a special committee, responsible for the fund.
As a tribute to the immense success of the Big Bang charity event, the Rotary Club said it intends to boost the initial fund by holding a similar charity event on an annual basis.
This year’s event took place at Benamor, where 50 golfers played a team tournament. Even golfers who could not participate generously increased the fund by paying their green fees.
Castro Verde Philharmonic Band, conducted by Ricardo Carvalho, played for three hours during the tournament, with 14 prizes presented to the winners. In the evening, more than 100 guests met at the Pousada de Tavira, for a Gala Dinner followed by dancing to the Big Band Algarve. | Return to Top
