Cruising the coasts of Portugal and Spain
• 08 Mar 2007 • CRUISE operator Douro Azul has announced its 2007 summer programme which includes seven-day cruises, from April to October, in the Algarve and southern Spain.
The itinerary starts at Portimão, connecting the Arade River and the Ria Formosa through a short costal sail between Portimão and Olhão.
The trip continues to the Portuguese border at Vila Real de Santo António. Entering into the Alentejo region, the ship sails along the Guadiana River.
On the return journey, it docks at Alcoutim before sailing to Ayamonte (Spain), from where tourists will depart for an excursion to the World Heritage city of Seville.
The ship then docks at Vilamoura before returning to Portimão, where the trip ends.
The hotel-ship Algarve Cruiser, the only of its kind sailing along the Algarve coast, is a modern vessel, adapted to coastal and river navigation, with four decks and 65 double cabins, with capacity for 130 passengers. It is equipped with swimming-pool, jacuzzis, as well as a bar and restaurant.
Douro Azul is owned by Ferreira and Rayford Turismo, a company which was established in 1994 with the view to promoting cruises on the River Douro, in the north of Portugal.
In order to respond to demand and increase the range of its services, in 2004 started operating in the Algarve with a new hotel boat, the Algarve Cruiser.
According to the company, overall last year the Algarve Cruiser transported 600 passengers. | Return to Top
