Yes, yes! Drug raid on home reveals stolen macaw

• 14 Jun 2007 •

A STOLEN blue macaw worth 5,000 euros may be the oA STOLEN blue macaw worth 5,000 euros may be the one found shouting ‘Yes, yes’ in English during Operation Laurel, one of the largest anti-drugs operations in Malaga. The drug raid led to four people being arrested plus 3,000 doses of cocaine and heroine and almost a kilo of uncut cocaine being discovered. During the raid at a house in La Palmilla, Malaga, police moved the bird to the kitchen so that they could continue their search undisturbed.

They later took it to an animal society where it was consequently identified by a British woman as having been stolen from her chalet home two weeks earlier in Alhaurin de la Torre.

When the woman went to claim the bird with her 12-year-old daughter the macaw started shouting the girl’s name, and they additionally provided a feather for DNA testing to prove ownership.

However, the owner of the Animal Protection Society claims the ring on the bird’s foot is not the same as the original. This is now being checked.
