Stabbing plea

THE Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a 14-year jail sentence for a man who stabbed his 72-year-old cellmate to death with a broken broomstick in Alhaurin de la Torre prison in 2006, as well as 50,000 euros compensation for his victim’s family.

Smash and grab

TWO PEOPLE who unsuccessfully tried to smash a jewellery shop window with a hammer and seize valuables in Calle Larios, Malaga, while staff served customers, escaped on foot before police arrived.

Beach swoop

A 44-YEAR-OLD man was arrested when Marbella police swooped as more than 1,000 kilos of hashish was being unloaded from a motorboat onto Alicante beach. Two other men escaped.

Home fire

A 27-YEAR-OLD Swedish woman had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in her fourth-floor apartment in Calle Camino de Santiago, Fuengirola.
