Murdered couple hid money on premises

UWE AND ROSEMARIE HOLST, the couple who were murdered by intruders in their home in Chilches in January, had apparently received a 60,000 euro deposit for the sale of their house which appears to be what the attackers were looking for.

They had hidden the money behind the only painting in the house that the intruders did not move in their search for valuables. It is thought that the couple intended to move back to Germany with the money.

Within 48 hours of the beginning of the investigation, National Police had arrested five people and retrieved the couple’s stolen car. The five detainees were sent to prison, although two of them were released in March. Police are still investigating the double murder and recently arrested a further six people on the Costa del Sol, one of them is believed to be the person who carried out the actual killings.

Police believe someone who worked for the couple had tipped them off that the money was hidden in the house.
