Ultra triathlon to Rugby World Cup
• 14 Jun 2007 •
JUST like other 23-year-old football fans, Tim Reeve wanted to go to Germany to support England in the 2006 World Cup Finals. Sadly, he didn’t make it. He died of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on December 10, 2005.
To honour his courageous life, the Tim Reeve Charitable Trust was established in his memory. Despite the excellent medical and nursing care he received, he was unable to overcome a disease that still kills seven out of 10 young adult sufferers.
To raise money for the charity, Tim’s father walked from Wembley to the opening match of the World Cup Soccer in Germany in 2006.
Building on the success of his father’s ‘Walk to the World Cup’, Dan Reeve, Tim’s brother and friend Rob Aitken, are training hard for their own amazing journey; an ultra triathlon to the Rugby World Cup to be held in France comprising of;
• A cross channel swim (24 miles/38.6 kilometres)
• A 1,120 mile/1802 kilometre cycle ride
• A 262 mile/421 kilometre run (a marathon a day for 10 days)
They aim to arrive in Paris in time for the England Pool Game against South Africa on September 7.
As training for this ultra triathlon, they will arrive to the Costa del Sol on June 29 and part of the programme is a six hour swim on July 1 between Rincon de la Victoria and Torre del Mar. You are welcome to encourage the men in their efforts and cheer them on.
The charitable trust will support research to improve cure rates for teenagers and young adults suffering from cancers of the blood and make information about complementary therapies more available to patients and their families.
