Playground fun leads to death of young boy

• 28 Jun 2007 •

Basketball net: Cause of tragic accident.A 16-YEAR-OLD Swedish boy was killed in an accident at Las Maravillas School in Arroyo de la Miel after a basketball net fell on him. The boy and other students, who were being monitored at the time, were playing basketball when the net broke after they had apparently been swinging on it. The deceased youth, who was spending 15 days in Spain to learn Spanish, was attended to by emergency services who rushed to the scene. However, his injuries are reported to have been so severe, they were unable to save his life. The Swedish Embassy has been informed of the accident and are arranging to send the boy’s body back to his family. A Torremolinos court is looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident and out of respect for the family, the school has suspended the end of term celebrations.
