Tourist drowns

AN 83-YEAR-OLD French tourist drowned while swimming off Malapesquera Beach in Benalmadena. The deceased, who was staying at a local hotel, apparently collapsed due to hypothermia and her body was swept into the water where it was spotted by a boat heading to the local port. A Guardia Civil lifeboat and Red Cross volunteers retrieved the body and attempted to resuscitate the victim, but with no success. A post mortem will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

New road laws

THE SPANISH Traffic authorities, the DGT, have announced they are working on a project to modify road safety laws and make headlights obligatory throughout the day in an attempt to reduce fatalities. If the change is approved, legislation may be in place before the end of the year.
