Police net huge hashish haul
• 28 Jun 2007 • THE Catalunian Police Force “Mossos d´Esquadra” have arrested five people in Rosas (Girona) for transporting two and a half tonnes of hashish, on a ship from Malaga, for distribution in Catalunia. The five arrested, formed part of an international organisation that had been investigated by Mossos d´Esquadra since last year after they discovered that one of the group’s operative bases was in Rosas. The officers had found a house in the Santa Margarida residential area that, according to investigative sources, could be directly accessed through a channel which the criminals were using to store and distribute the drug.
Despite this discovery, the investigation named “Operation Corleone” was extended because the suspects did not live in the house which was under surveillance. They did not return to it until June 20, when the drug shipment was also detected. The shipment left Benalmadena harbour five days earlier, and according to the port authorities, the crew members told them they where headed to the nearby Estepona harbour, but the ship changed course towards Rosas. On June 21, surveillance officers spotted four men and one woman loading bundles into the house in Santa Margarida. The officers were then finally authorised to enter the property and arrest the three British men and one woman aged between 25 and 35, and a Dutch man aged 40. Over 130 bundles of two and half tonnes of hashish were confiscated as well as the ship and car used by the group. | Return to Top
