Doctor sentenced for hair removal burns

A PROVINCIAL COURT in Malaga has ordered a doctor to pay 37,156 euros in compensation to a patient who suffered several burns on different parts of her body as a result of the laser hair removal treatment he carried out on her. According to the sentence, the doctor refused to refer the victim – who still has scars which have resulted in the victim requiring psychological treatment – to a dermatologist after she asked him to. The doctor, who works at the Centro Aurea in Malaga, also refused to pay the dermatologist fees after the victim received treatment for her burns. According to the woman, she noticed that the laser hair removal treatment was causing damage to her skin; she then informed the doctor who played down the importance of the fact and continued with the treatment.
