Two World Travel Awards for the Algarve

• 18 Oct 2007 •

Graham Cooke of World Travel Awards presenting PraTRAVEL professionals around the globe elected two Algarve nominees for the World Travel Awards which were presented last week in the UK. The prestigious World Travel Awards were presented to the Sheraton Algarve Hotel and to the Vila Joya on October 9 in Newcastle at a ceremony which is considered one of the most important of its kind in the travel and hospitality industry.

More than 160,000 travel experts from around the world voted the Sheraton Algarve Hotel Pine Cliffs Resort as Leading Golf Resort in Portugal. Portugal’s Leading Suite Award was won by Vila Joya for its Suites 1001 and 2001. Vila Joya in Albufeira was last year’s winner of the World’s Best Boutique Resort award. This year, Quinta da Bela Vista in the Madeira Islands won Portugal’s and Europe’s Best Boutique Hotel award. The winner of Portugal’s Leading Resort award was the Praia D’El Rey Golf & Beach Resort. Pestana Palace in Lisbon took two awards at a national level for Best Conference Hotel and Best Hotel in Portugal. The Best Spa in Portugal award was won by Convento do Espinheiro. For Albufeira’s Sheraton Algarve Hotel  Pine Cliffs Resort it was its sixth World Travel Award since 2001.

This year, the voting campaign included the participation of more than 110,000 travel agents. Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the "Travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars", the World Travel Awards are the most comprehensive and prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry today, highly regarded as the forum that serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements found in all sectors of this industry.

“We are thrilled and very proud to be rewarded once again with a prestigious World Travel Award for the fourth consecutive year,” said Flavio Bucciarelli, Area Manager Algarve for Starwood Hotels & Resorts and General Manager of the Sheraton Algarve Hotel at Pine Cliffs Resort. Bucciarelli added: “It is a privilege and an accomplishment by our team to be recognised by such a wide audience of experienced and respected travel professionals. I believe the secret is the balance between an inspiring location, the authentic and indigenous architecture and the highly motivated team who provide an exceptional experience to each of our guests.”

The Sheraton Algarve Hotel at Pine Cliffs Resort surrounded by the iconic Algarve pine trees and located on a cliff-top offering dramatic views over the Atlantic, has celebrated its 15th anniversary this year with the opening of the new luxurious Pine Cliffs Residence apartments and Casa Pine Cliffs, with a new Mediterranean restaurant, bar, swimming pool, gym and health club.
