Attempted robbery

GUARDIA CIVIL Judicial Police are investigating an attempted robbery and shooting which took place in a bar in Algarrobo Costa. Allegedly, the owner of the bar and a 26-year-old customer were closing for the night when two individuals in ski masks tackled two people standing outside the entrance to the bar with the intention of stealing the nights takings. In an attempt to defend the bar owner, the 26-year-old, a resident of Mezquitilla, confronted the attackers. When he tried to uncover their faces, one of them shot him in the arm. He has since been operated on in Hospital Comarcal in La Axarquia and remains there in stable condition. The towns of Algarrobo Costa and Mezquitilla are shocked; residents claim that these incidents are uncommon. According to sources, the two individuals are still at large. It is unknown whether the robbers where able to escape with the bar’s takings.
