Putin’s state visit to Portugal
• 25 Oct 2007 • AT the invitation of the president of the Portuguese Republic, Cavaco Silva, the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, started an official visit to Portugal today. The visit begun with a welcoming ceremony with full military honours in front of the Jerónimos Monastery, after which President Vladimir Putin was received at the Palace of Belém, by President Cavaco Silva and, later, at the São Bento Official Residence, by the prime minister. The Portuguese president will today host a banquet at the Palace of Ajuda
in honour of his counter-part, prior to which both Heads of State will preside at the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition ‘From Peter the Great to Nicholas II – Art and Culture of the Russian Empire in the Hermitage Collection’, which will remain open to the public at the Dom Luís I Gallery. The two presidents will also attend a piano concert dedicated by Presi-dent Putin to President Cavaco Silva. Tomorrow, Mr Putin will take part in the European Union-Russia Summit. | Return to Top
