Easy: Text your doctor for an appointment.

BOOKING an appointment with your doctor has never been easier with the introduction of the SMS method. New to Almeria, it is now possible to arrange an appointment to see your doctor by sending a text message. You will receive a text message back confirming the time and date of your appointment.

In order to book your appointment by SMS, text 'CITASAS' followed by the number that is shown on your health card. Forward this text to 600 123 400. You will then receive details of your appointment time.

If you're happy with the time of the appointment, you simply return the message, texting 'CITASAS OK'.

If you're not happy with the time or date of the appointment and wish to make another, simply text back 'CITASAS TO CHANGE'. Repeat this process until you are happy with the time and date of your appointment.

After you confirm your agreement of the appointment, you will receive a text message confirming the time, date, your medical centre and your doctor's name.

Every year in Andalucia there are almost 58 million appointments made to see the doctor. It is hoped by health officials that this method will make the process faster and easier for both staff and patients.

These text messages are sent at a basic rate, and should cost no more than sending a normal text.
